GEOPOETICS OF THE UAE

In conjunction with COP28 | UAE Embassy, Brussels, Belgium | 6 June 2023

The group exhibition was officiated with a VIP reception in conjunction with COP28 and in the presence of H.E Mohamed Al Sahlawi, H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber and H.E. Lana Nusseibeh. As the digital world is changing how we use and interact with our environments, a new form of tooling for artistic expression has also emerged. This unique exhibition brings an opportunity to the European viewers to explore the art scene of the UAE.

Geopoetics of the UAE offers a multi-dimensional perspective of the ways in which we navigate and transform our surroundings. Through an exploration of diverse practices, including those related to landscapes, urban flux, climate, and speculations, the exhibition delves into and unpacks the intricate and interconnected nature of our landscapes and realities, questioning whether a plurality of approaches can paint a cohesive picture of an imaginary.

The artworks in this exhibition grapple with the varying dimensions of interfacing with and understanding space-time. We are always contending with the revelations and confrontations of ambiguity. Whether in the beauty and ethereal essence of liminal spaces, or the disappearance and evolution of cultures, there is agency afforded by acts of speculating a third space. A third space, where traditions collide with the future, in the now.
