The Mine is an incubator space for artists, focused on art practices and artists in West Asia. Ahead of its time - and years before galleries followed the art market’s digital turn - The Mine transitioned from operating as a project space, established in 2013 by Sanaz Askari, to a nomadic, curatorial platform. Showcasing and selling artworks by emerging and mid-career artists both online and offline, The Mine also functions as an advisory. It has run workshops, educational and internship programs for the city of Dubai under the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Dubai Media Office from 2016-2019. Askari has re-envisioned The Mine since 2018 to become an independent commissioning body that curates artistic interventions and exhibitions around the world in collaboration with other spaces.
